The Colonel Bird

Directed by Peter Batakliev

A handful of men and a woman, banned into an asylum, turn desperately towards heaven from their unfathomable Balkans. Heaven – the paradise symbolized for them by Western Europe – performs miracles. It befalls them with parachuted parcels of aide hardly destined for them. Christo Boychev's Colonel Oiseau refers to the fabulous and seriously current metaphor of our historic present, a face to face of people with their grim reality and utopia. Neglect and destitution inspire people to new heights of picking themselves up and moving on. The capacity of invention under difficult circumstances is the main theme of the play.

Directed by Peter Batakliev and presented at the Quat’sous theater in the year 2000, The Colonel Bird is as inspiring as it is haunting.

(Although its not our footage, the play stirred enough emotion in us to bring an edit into the world.)
